Samsung’s Android XR Headset Is Coming Out To Take On The Apple Vision Pro, Developer Version Rolling Out In October

The Galaxy Unpacked 2024 unveiled a plethora of devices, with the highlight being the new AI capabilities, the latest foldable series, and the new smart ring product category that Samsung stepped in for the first time. At the event, TM Roh announced that an extended reality (XR) platform is in the works and can come out this year. While this news created a buzz in the tech community, a recent report gives more insights on the Android XR headset and its possible launch.

Samsung will be releasing the Android XR headset’s developer version in October, and we may see the official release in 2025

According to a report by Business Insider, an internal timeline for the Qualcomm-powered and Samsung-built Android XR headset was revealed. The developer version could be coming out this October, while the consumer version would be coming early in 2025. The headset, codenamed “Moohan,” will use Google’s new AR software and is going to be the company’s take on the Apple Vision Pro.

At Unpacked 2024, users were given a teaser about the extended reality XR platform, which has been in the works for a while and will be rolled out this year. The first mention of the development of the mixed reality device was in February last year when the company mentioned the possibility of collaborating with Qualcomm and Google to bring out an XR headset. It was not until July 10th that we were given an official statement regarding the platform launch this year.

The headset was initially to be released in the first quarter of this year, as the Vision Pro created quite the wave in February, but the company felt the device was not fully ready yet to be rolled out, and the date was pushed back multiple times.

The XR platform could be powered by the most capable Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, or we could see an even more efficient and powerful chipset dedicated to the headset. We look forward to the developer launch, which will give us more detailed insights.

Other details regarding the launch format are scarce, but we expect it to shape up as the release date approaches. We are guessing that the XR headset will come with an OLED screen, hand and eye tracking capabilities, eight tracking cameras, and the possibility of AI-powered advancement.
