Microsoft Brings June Week D Preview Update to Windows 11 Version 24H2

As you may recall, Microsoft originally delivered a Week D preview update last week to Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2, but not to 24H2. But on Friday, Microsoft belatedly delivered a version for those on Windows 11 version 24H2 as well. (I guess I missed this because I was traveling, but I first saw it over the weekend.)

This update, KB5039304, is the same one that Microsoft released to the Windows Insider Program’s Release Preview channel on June 20, and it increments the build number from 26100.863—the initial release of 24H2—to 26100.1000. (The Release Preview was updated to build 26100.994, so there were some minor changes since then.) We can assume that those on Windows 11 version 24H2 will get this build in stable next week, on July 9, Patch Tuesday.Windows 11 version 24H2

“Windows 11 version 24H2 is targeting Copilot+ PCs devices and devices that were previously using Windows Insider 24H2 builds,” Microsoft explains in the KB5039304 release notes. “This update addresses non-security issues for your Windows operating system.”

Two interesting points there. One, Microsoft has updated the language regarding who will get these 24H2 builds in stable because it’s not only those with Copilot+ PCs as it had claimed in June’s Patch Tuesday update: Anyone who used my tip to upgrade to 24H2 is fully supported in stable and will get each month’s cumulative updates normally. And two, this preview update includes some non-security fixes, but no new features. What's next for Windows 11? So it looks like Patch Tuesday will be an inconsequential update for 24H2 users next month. This makes sense: The plan is to align the feature sets of all supported Windows 11 versions, and next week on Patch Tuesday, those on 22H2 and 23H2 will be getting numerous new features that first debuted in 24H2.Biggest Windows 11 update in 2 years nearly finalized, enters Release Preview | Ars Technica

KB5039304 addresses issues with Windows Defender Application Control (WDAC), the Desktop Windows Manager (DWM), Unified Write Filter (UWF), and the Input Method Editor (IME), and it provides updated profiles for the Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA). Nothing major.
