Google has rolled out a slew of new features throughout its development. In a similar effort, the tech giant has reportedly tweaked its Weather app. Previously, the forecast just displayed the day, i.e., Today, Sunday, Monday, etc., however, it will now also include the date in the 10-day forecast, reported by 9to5Google. This new feature is also available in the iOS Weather app.
Google Weather, which now uses first-party forecasting models, may benefit from having its application, rather than being a part of the Google app. Moreover, features like radar and more widgets (for all Android devices) offer it an enhanced utility.
Meanwhile, with the release of Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 this fall, it will also introduce significant updates to the iPhone’s built-in apps like Weather, Messages, Photos, Reminders, Notes, and the Journal app. 9to5 Mac mentioned in its report that iOS 18 will consist of two new features.
The first feature is the display of the actual and feel-like temperatures. Both temperatures will be presented prominently.
The new format is currently available in the Google App 12.25 version. These changes make it more streamlined to understand weather-related information, as having dates along with days can be useful when one passes the week mark. It will also help users make long-term planning easier.
Since the 2023 redesign, Google’s Weather app has had no real updates. Google updated the At a Glance weather icon and Pixel widgets but left the app with its original set. In the meantime, the tech giant recently pulled the dedicated app icon for Weather.
Another feature of iOS 18 will be the integration of home and work locations. Apple Maps in iOS has long integrated the Contacts app to pull in your home and work address information from your contact card. Now, in iOS 18, the same information from Contacts is being used in the Weather app.
By default, iPhone users’ home and work addresses will be added to the list of tracked weather locations as new locations, enabling the app to easily monitor weather conditions at these locations without manually typing the addresses.
