According to the latest reports, BTS members V and Jungkook have proceeded with their lawsuit against Park, the creator behind the infamous YouTube channel Sojang.
On August 16, Star News reported that the two members had sued Park, claiming damage of about ₩90.0 million KRW (about $66,100 USD). The Civil Division 12 of the Seoul Western District Court will hold the first trial on August 23, five months after the lawsuit’s filing.
In a previous notice, BTS’s label BIGHIT MUSIC explicitly mentioned the YouTube channel Sojang, stating that they had filed a complaint against the creator for defamation and obstruction of business. According to BIGHIT, the investigation was then suspended, but they collected and provided additional information about Park and handed it over to the authorities, leading to the case being reopened. The agency also filed the lawsuit on behalf of the two BTS members.
Though BIGHIT MUSIC has admittedly sent multiple suspects to the prosecution for criminal charges as well, Sojang has, so far, been the only channel called out directly by a BTS member. V had previously posted a screenshot of the malicious videos posted by the channel on Weverse, mentioning that he would be taking legal action and “earn some snack money” with the lawsuit.
Meanwhile, as V had mentioned, many other artists have also taken action against Sojang, with IVE’s Wonyoung and her agency Starship Entertainment being successful in chasing down the real identity of the creator behind the channel. A significant portion of Park’s assets were also frozen by prosecutors over Wonyoung’s lawsuit a few months ago. You can read more about it here:
